Animals in Trouble
Can you guess which animals are in danger of becoming extinct?

Today, nearly 400 animals in the United States re listed as threatened or endangered. Many are at risk of becoming extinct, or disappearing permanently. Unless efforts to save these animals succeed, many of them will be lost forever. From the facts listed below each question mark, guess the identities of these endangered animals. Then click on the picture to find out more about each of these animals in trouble.


Who Am I?
I can jump over a 10-foot waterfall. I swim upstream to spawn, or reproduce.

Who Am I?
I have huge horns that curve around the sides of my head. I use my horns to fight.

Who Am I?
I am the largest flying bird in North America. I'm not very pretty, but I can live up to 60 years.

Who Am I?
I kill my prey with sharp claws and teeth. I may eat only once a week, and I sleep as much as 18 hours a day.

Who Am I?
I can fit in the palm of your hand. But I can eat from 600 to 1,000 mosquitoes and other insects in less than one hour. I hang upside down when I'm sleeping.

Who Am I?
I swim in the ocean. I'm so playful sometimes I jump out of the water.

Who Am I?
I'm a fierce hunter. I look a lot like an alligator, but I have a pointed nose.

Who Am I?
Some people call me a sea cow. My front legs are shaped like paddles, and I have no hind legs.

Who Am I?
I'm one of the rarest birds in North America. I have a loud call that sounds like a bugle.
