Tuesday, April 29—North Korea will begin to take apart its nuclear weapons if properly rewarded by the United States. The Communist country revealed last week that it has at least two nuclear bombs and the ability to make more. It promised a "physical demonstration" of its weapons if negotiations with the U.S. do not begin soon.

The U.S. has so far refused to talk with North Korea, and is threatening economic sanctions, or penalties, if North Korea does not begin to take apart its bombs immediately. The Pentagon may begin intercepting North Korean ships for inspection.

"We have the ability to track anything going in or out of North Korean waters," one Pentagon officials said.

Officials in South Korea have tried to begin talks with North Korea, but have been snubbed. The democratic South Korea met with North Korea recently, but the north would only discuss economics and festivals. Questions about the north's weapons program went unanswered.

North Korea also wants the U.S. government to recognize its political system. If they do so, North Korea will allow weapons inspectors into its country.

U.S. negotiators said they would study these new proposals, but made no further comments.
