The World Wide Web can be an amazing place to search for information about people. Here are some Internet resources to help you get started!

Note: Always be careful when using facts found on the Internet. Make sure to double-check your information against books, newspaper or magazine articles, and interviews. Be double sure that you are on a reputable Web site.

Google.com is a good place to start any online research. Just type your subject's name into the window and hit enter. If you are researching a famous or historical person, there should be plenty of Web sites to visit. Hint: It helps to put whatever you are looking for in quotes ("John Doe").

Yahoo People provides general listings for historical figures, as well as people in the news.

The Biographical Dictionary offers over 28,000 short biographies, with an emphasis on historical figures.

Biography.com, created by the A&E television network, has basic biographical overviews of celebrities and people in the news.

Infoplease is a general biographical resource with more than 30,000 entries.

American Presidents provides detailed information about U.S. Presidents, including films, speeches, and bibliographies.

First Ladies of the USA presents the biographical histories of U.S. First Ladies.

Art Net is one of the best Web sites for collecting detailed information about artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, etc.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) presents facts and figures about actors, directors, writers, and producers.

The National Inventors Hall of Fame posts biographies for all of its members, as well as links to other sites.

Naxos provides information about classical composers.
