Tyler James Williams can identify with his role as Chris in UPN's new sitcom based on the life of comedian Chris Rock, Everybody Hates Chris. Williams plays 13-year-old Rock, who is growing up with two siblings in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. Williams, born in 1992, is also 13. He lives in New York with his parents and two brothers, Tylen and Tyrel.

"You know it just clicked when I first read the script. It just seemed like it was perfect, it was the perfect script," he said. "So I didn't really have to research [Chris], it was just more of learning the lines. And the more you learn your lines, the funnier it gets."

Williams's character faces several challenges. Chris has just moved to a new neighborhood and has to take two buses to get to an all-white school where he is the only black student. He and his best friend Greg must also deal with the school bully.

Acting is nothing new for this child star, who has been on screen since he was 4. He was a regular on Sesame Street for several years and provided the voice for Bobby on Bill Cosby's animated show, Little Bill.

Williams has also been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Saturday Night Live, and Law & Order: SVU. His commercials include Corvette and Fruit by the Foot.

You can watch Williams on Everybody Hates Chris on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on UPN.
