June 28Have you ever met someone or saw something that totally changed you? Well, that is what happened to Carlos Fernandes, the Chairman of Special Olympics.
He has not always been involved with Special Olympicsuntil he saw a certain video.
His sister was the first person to ever mention Special Olympics to him. He told her it sounded good and he would like to hear more.
At the time, Carlos worked in the marketing department for Coca-Cola. He was in charge of sponsoring huge events and fund-raisers. They were having a huge conference that included a video about Special Olympics.
The video featured the song 'One Moment in Time' playing in the background.
"When the video was over I was crying like a baby in the back of the room," Carlos said.
From then on Special Olympics has been a part of his life and will continue to be forever. His goal now is to spread the word of Special Olympics all over the world.
"All you have to do is talk about it," he said. "Because once someone hears about it, they fall in love with it forever."
