I and my colleague, Erika DeJesus, were packed into a room with bright lights, tall chairs, lots of cameras, and lots of people, as we waited for the stars to arrive.
First up was Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son, who is acting in the new thriller Alone with Her. Hanks was cool and funny. He had a skateboarder's style and wore Vans sneakers. We talked about what he was like when he was a kid, his favorite movies, his inspirations, and what he likes about acting.
"A lot of [acting] is just using your imagination," said Hanks. "To be an adult, and to get to be paid to pretend? That's pretty sweet."
This is the first year Hanks has been in a film at Tribeca. So how does it feel to be a part of this year's festival?
"It's cool when you're able to be in a film festival that is so open to so many different kinds of movies," said Hanks.
Following Hanks, was Ash Christian. At 21, he is the youngest director to have a premiere at this year's festival. His movie is called Fat Girls, which he made because he remembered how it felt to stick out when he was in high school.
"[In high school,] I never saw a movie that was made for the 'outsider,'" said Christian. "That's why I wanted to make the movieto sort of make people feel like they're not alone."
Next up was actor Jeff Goldblum, the star of two films being shown at the festival: Pittsburgh and Mini's First Time. For such a famous actor, he was a really nice guy. He was very easy to talk to.
He showed up wearing cowboy boots. Later, he explained that he always pretended to be a cowboy while he was growing up. We talked about a lot of stuff, such as his roles in Independence Day, Jurassic Park, and his latest movies. Goldblum described how exciting it was to have two films playing at Tribeca.
"I love this film festival," said Goldblum. "I love how all of this came to be."

"I don't even need a mirror," she said. "I'm that good."
Sarah was funny, and I even made her laugh a couple of times. We talked awhile about her new movie, I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, which also stars her friend Jeff Garlin from Curb Your Enthusiasm.
"We laughed a lot [during the movie]," she said. "In between every take, we were laughing and making jokes."
We also talked about music. Sara is a fan of rock music, but she also said that she likes rap. I really enjoyed her sense of humor the most.
Finally, we met Illeana Douglas, who stars with Jeff Goldblum in the movie Pittsburgh. She had a few questions for me about my broken arm, but we quickly moved on to talk about how she liked working with Jeff Goldblum.
"I loved every minute of it," said Douglas. "I've known Jeff Goldblum for a number of years."
This was a really great experience for me to sit with these phenomenal people and learn about their lives. It inspired me to think about making a movie!
