Star Spotlight

The talented Sabrina Bryan has appeared in the highly rated Cheetah Girls films, and recently finished a cross-country concert tour with her fellow cheetahs, Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams. We recently got to have a one-on-one chat with Sabrina. Read on to find out what she had to say about her good pals Adrienne and Kiely, her all-time favorite performer Gwen Stefani, and more!

What advice does Sabrina have for achieving your goals?

Q & A

Q: How did you get started singing and dancing?

Sabrina: I started dance lessons when I was about 7 because my older cousin Leah was a dancer and I went and saw her and I wanted to dance just like her. From there, I got noticed on stage through different things and I begged my parents to let me start acting.

Q: Did you take voice, dance, and acting classes?

Sabrina: I did. I always say, perfect your craft—and take as many classes as you can.

Q: What was your first movie?

Sabrina: It was Mrs. Santa Claus. It was a made-for-TV Hallmark movie that still airs, actually, and it starred Angela Lansbury.

Q: Is there any particular role you want to play?

Sabrina: I think starring in a film would be fun, but also producing and directing. Musicals and things like that have always been something that I've been interested in. I was so excited when Chicago came out because it's one of my all-time favorite musicals. And so I think doing a lot of stuff like that and really giving audiences the opportunity to see the old Hollywood musicals like Singing in the Rain and continuously bringing them back would be my dream.

Q: Are there any singers who influenced or excited you?

Sabrina: I've always liked Gwen Stefani. She's an Orange County girl, like me!

Q: Are you Cheetah Girls able to keep in touch when you're not working together?

Sabrina: Yes! We're always together.

Q: Describe Kiely and Adrienne.

Sabrina: Kiely is definitely the mom. She takes care of us. She's very sensitive to how Adrienne and I are feeling. Even though she's the youngest, she always seems to take care of us. I think Adrienne keeps us focused on the career aspect.

Q: You are involved in something called the Healthy Kids Challenge—what is that all about?

Sabrina: The Healthy Kids Challenge goes into schools and teaches kids about nutrition. I was always part of the process, and a producer on the fitness video B-You. If you give [kids] fun, high-energy movements that are cool, you get [them] to focus on how they can help their bodies. When you work out, you feel good no matter what. It's not about [being] skinny. It's just about being healthy. It's about living a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy, moving your body a little bit more. It's about small things.

Q: What was your favorite subject in school?

Sabrina: Math. I loved tap dancing as a kid and there was always something [about it] that incorporated math. It must have been all the rhythms and formations in my head and solutions and formulas and stuff like that. It was always challenging, but I really, really liked to do it.

Q: If you could invite three people, present or past, to dinner, who would they be and what would you serve?

Sabrina: One of them would be Audrey Hepburn. And then Frank Sinatra. I think the other guest would have to be Gwen Stefani. I have no idea what I would serve for food. I think Gwen would be fine with whatever, but I think I would have to serve something very posh and elegant for Frank and Audrey.
