Star Spotlight
On the popular Nickelodeon series Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide Daniel Curtis Lee plays Simon "Cookie" Cook. On the show, Cookie, Ned, and Moze are best friends trying to survive the school day. For Cookie, those days can be tough. He may be a major brain, but he scores a zero in the fashion department, and always seems to wind up in the wackiest situations. Scholastic News Online recently caught up with Daniel and asked him about the show, his career, and what it's like to play Cookie. Here's what he had to say:
Q & A
Q:
How has Cookie changed since the show began?
Daniel: Cookie still does crazy stuff. He gets into a lot of crazy things and has to have his friends bail him out. He is still really nerdy, but I think he has kind of gotten a little smarter with the steps that he takes.
Q:
What is your favorite thing about him?
Daniel: He is so lovable. Everyone likes him. He is just crazy and kooky and is always getting into trouble.
Q:
Describe Cookie's friendship with Ned and Moze.
Daniel: They have been friends since kindergarten. It is almost like we are able to read each other. [Cookie is] super nerdy and I need cool friends to hang out with. Ned, he is a normal guy who needs friends and we happen to be his friends. Moze is a girl who really doesn't want to be our friend because we are guys, but she has been with us for so long that it is kind of like "friendly love," you know.
Q:
What do you look for in a friend?
Daniel: Someone who you can talk to. They are people that you want to express your feelings to, and that you can just have fun with.
Q:
Have you ever known anyone who is like Cookie?
Daniel: I don't think there is a person in the world that is like Cookie. He is so crazy!
Q:
If you could play any character, who would it be and why?
Daniel: I am young and I think all young guys would love to play a superheroany super heroit doesn't matter. I could be a superhero that would just turn into a big blob or something like that, but I could tell all the ladies, "Hey, I am superhero!"
Q:
Your older brother is also an actor. Did he give you any good advice when you first got into acting?
Daniel: He didn't have to tell me anything. I just watched him and learned from the things that he did.
Q:
Do you miss going to regular school?
Daniel: I miss it so much! That's where you meet all your friends and I miss hanging out with them.
Q:
Why do you think reading is important?
Daniel: Reading is a huge part of life. If you are planning on going to college, [reading] will help you get a good job and good grades.
