Star Spotlight
It's been over twenty years since Superman appeared on the big screen. But this summer, he's back! Brandon Routh stars as the Man of Steel in the hotly anticipated movie Superman Returns. Scholastic News Online recently talked to Brandon about his favorite superhero (you can probably guess who it is!) and his love of reading. Here's what he had to say:
Q & A
Q:
Who was your favorite superhero as a child?
Brandon: Superman! The first two films had just come out, and I was Superman crazy. Plus, he was a really good guy keeping everyone safe. Oh, and he could fly!
Q:
Having a super power could be a lot of fun. What super power would you like to have?
Brandon: It would be amazing to be able to fly wherever you wanted and it wouldn't harm the environment!
Q:
Do you like to read?
Brandon: I love to read. Reading is a great way to learn new things. It's great to step inside a story and create your own world.
Q:
What was your favorite book as a child?
Brandon: Where the Red Fern Grows. I loved the Ozarks, and it was such an amazing adventure for a kid out in the woods.
Q:
Do you remember the first book you bought to read for pleasure?
Brandon: I bought The Sword of Shannara. I'd gotten it from the library and it was one of my favorite books, so I wanted to own it.
Q:
Is there a book you would like to see made into a movieany character you would want to play?
Brandon: To Kill A Mockingbird has already been made, but if they were to remake it, I'd love to play Atticus Finch.
Q:
Why is it important for kids to read?
Brandon: Reading allows you to learn all kinds of cool stuff. You can learn about whatever you're interested in: sports, art, video games, dance, cooking and movies. It's also a great way to escape to another place, and be creative!
