Fourteen-year-old rapper J Xavier is really growing up! Not only has he shed the "Lil" part of his name, but he's also dropping his debut CD, Young Prince of Tha South, this coming December. The first single, "I Love My Music" is stirring up fans all over the country. We recently caught up with J Xavier and asked him about his debut CD, and a whole lot more! Here's what he had to say:

What does J Xavier write songs about?

Q & A

Q: When did you know performing was what you wanted to do?

J Xavier: I started when I was nine-years-old. I played drums at my church. There was this minister at my church and he came up to my dad and said, "I see your son has a lot of rhythm. Why don't you let me take him to my studio and let's see what we can come up with?" So I did a little demo, and it just took off from there. I signed with Music World Entertainment. Now my album, Young Prince of Tha South, is about to come out.

Q: Did you teach yourself to play the drums or did you take classes?

J Xavier: I just taught myself. At one time I was in a class. I still play a little bit.

Q: What kinds of things do you like to write about?

J Xavier: Just fun stuff. You know, kid stuff. All my music is positive. [But] it's not just stuff that young people can listen to. I have this one song called "Bounce" on my CD. It's an up-tempo dance track. I like to write things that people can relate to.

Q: What performers have influenced you?

J Xavier: Well, I always say the first one has to be my dad, Samuel Harris, because he has been into music for a while. But I like people like Kanye West, Bow-Wow, Chris Brown... all different kinds of artists. I like the pop artists too, like Kelly Clarkson... I'm checking out everything.

Q: Do you prefer performing in front of people or in the studio?

J Xavier: I like them the same. From the acting, to the stage, the studio, touring, and the fans. I love it all.

Q: Are people beginning to recognize you?

J Xavier: Oh, yes! I'm signing autographs and signing posters. I was at Jones Beach the other day and a lot of people remembered me from the last tour.

Q: Where do you see yourself in the future?

J Xavier: I'm not putting any limits on myself. I'm doing the rapping; I'm acting now. By the time I'm 18, I still want to be doing it, because I love it.
