Most people blink about 15 times a minute. Blinking helps keep your eyes moist, which is good for them. Blinking also protects your eyes from dirt and dust. Like breathing, blinking is a voluntary and an involuntary process. It is voluntary because you can blink your eyes anytime. It is also involuntary because you don't have to think about blinking. Your body will do it on its own.
Aphids are tiny insects that feed off plants. Aphids can harm plant growth and spread plant diseases. Some farmers control aphid populations with ladybugs. Ladybugs are a natural predator of aphids. A ladybug can eat 5,000 aphids in its lifetime. Farmers release ladybugs near aphid populations. The ladybugs consume the aphids and protect the plants.
William H. Seward was the U.S. Secretary of State who signed the treaty with Russia to purchase Alaska in 1867. Many people called the purchase "Seward's Folly" because they thought the territory was too hard to defend, too remote, and of little value.
