Mammals are a group of animals that share certain characteristics. All mammals have backbones and are warm-blooded. They produce milk to feed their babies, which are usually born live rather than in eggs. There are more than 5,000 species of mammals. Humans, elephants, rabbits, and whales are all mammals.
