Lewis and Clark
Buying the Louisiana Territory doubled the size
of our country. But much about the land was unknown. What did
it look like? What natural resources did it contain? President
Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore
the new territory

to begin your journey. Proceed
to Fort Mandan, Great Falls, the Pacific Ocean, Fort Clatsop,
and Aftermath.
As you read about Lewis and Clark, take notes for a journal youíll
be writing about their adventure. Include the following in your
journal: background information about Lewis and Clark; problems
with navigation; Sacagawea; Camp Fortunate; the Nez Perce; Fort
Clatsop; and results of the journey. Refer to your map as you
use your notes.
What became of Lewis and Clark? Did they become rich and famous?
What jobs were they given?
What problems did Lewis have after the expedition? What was the
controversy over his death?

Would you have wanted to join the Lewis and Clark expedition?
Why or why not? What would have been the highlight or low point
for you?
