Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was the leader of the United States when the country faced one of its greatest challenges — the Civil War. Learn about the key events in this famous president's life and about his important ideas on democracy.

Start by reading a short biography of President Lincoln at http://www.whitehouse.gov/WH/glimpse/presidents/html/al16.html. Make a time line of the significant events that took place on the following dates:

President Lincoln gave a very famous speech known as the The Gettysburg Address. He gave this short speech at the dedication of a cemetery in this town after the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.
