Harriet Tubman was born in 1821. She was born as a slave in Maryland. She grew up all over the south. She helped people escape from being a slave. She was also remembered for helping people in the civil war and brought almost 200 people to the under ground rail road. She escaped when her master died because she wanted to feel free. She wanted to show other slaves how it felt to be free.
