The CA Music Department’s play,” Back to the Manger”, took place on December 16, 2010. It was performed in the First Baptist Church sanctuary. The entire K-5th grade participated. Several 6th graders were also involved. “Back to the Manger” is a Christmas play about time travel. It shows Christmas Eves from the 40’s, 50’s, 70’s, 80s,and 90’s. It goes all the way back to the very first Christmas.
It takes place at the Midway Community Church. There are four kids that time travel between the Christmas Eves; Jackson (Mcgee Dunn), Norman ( Caleb Brewer), Gloria (Sophie Wenz) and Jasmine (Chloe Parker). They learn the true meaning of helping others at Christmas with the help of Jackson’s grandmother(Alexandra Russo), Mr. Olson(Davis Guyton) and some other people they meet in the different decades.
The students began preparations in September. Many tried out for speaking parts and solos. The Worship Arts team presented two Christmas songs before the play began. Lots of hard work went into the making of this production not only by the students but also by many parents. Many of the costumes seen in the play were authentic pieces from the time period. The play director and music teacher Robin Rexroad said “I am very proud of all the students. They worked very hard. They did a wonderful job!”. She added “ A special thanks to the teachers for all their help during the practices and the performance!”
