A simple smile isn't so simple

By Susann T.
Grade 11, Florida

They say she's apathetic

She doesn't seem to care

But don't blame them

It's hard for them to hear

To hear the unspoken

What she can't force herself to say

What it is that she's feeling

Each and every day

She doesn't know how to smile

Growing up surrounded with so much pain

She doesn't know how to show it

Even when it's not disdain

She sees peoplesí faces

Not happy, nor sad

But when it's her's seen

It wrongfully appears mad

When people get to know her

They must know it's not true

Even though she can be upset

She can be happy too

They say she's apathetic

She doesn't seem to care

But don't blame them

The just can't hear
