Here is the way I
tell one traditional folktale from West Africa. Monkey is a trickster,
always getting into trouble. We laugh at his mischief and at his disrespectful
attitude. To capture this playful naughtiness, I have tried to fill his
story with rhymes and rhythms. Listen for the way I use loud and soft,
and notice how I make mouth music with roars, and cries, and yowls. Look
at my facial and body movements as I tell the story.
