The Earthwatch research expedition takes place in the tropical rainforest of La Selva, located in the Caribbean lowlands of northern of Costa Rica. Costa Rica is just north of Panama and south of Nicaragua. Can you tell how far it is from the equator?

Costa Rica is famous for its democratic government, volcanoes, beautiful beaches, and tropical rain forests. In fact, the name Costa Rica means "rich coast," which gives you a hint about its natural bounty.
