NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

1. How to Enter: Open to students, enrolled in grades 3–12, and that are legal U.S. residents. To enter The "Biggest Children's Book in the World" Sweepstakes (the "Sweepstakes"), legibly print or type an original essay on an 8 ½ by 11 sheet of paper on the theme "My Dream for a Better World." Essays must be 100–500 words. Include your first and last name, age, and home town (including state). The back of the entry must include your home address (street, city, state, country & zip code), home phone number and parent/legal guardian's name and signature. Also on the back include your grade, school name, and teacher's name. Send your essay to Scholastic Inc., c/o The Biggest Children's Book in the World Project, 557 Broadway 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10012. Each student who submits an essay will be entered into the Sweepstakes. Each student that submits an essay will also receive a certificate acknowledging his/her participation. Teachers may submit one group project essay for the entire class, however, only individual student entries will be entered into the Sweepstakes drawing. Sweepstakes begins on January 2, 2002 and all entries must be postmarked no later than May 6, 2002 and received no later than May 10, 2002. No mechanically reproduced or computer generated entries allowed. Scholastic reserves the right to select entries for actual publication in The Biggest Children's Book in the World. All entries, including rights therein, become the property of Scholastic Inc. and will not be returned. Scholastic is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, damaged, mutilated, postage due, incomplete or illegible entries or mail. By submitting an entry, each student's parent/legal guardian grants to Scholastic the right to use his or her name, likeness, hometown, biographical information, and entry in any media, including publication in The Biggest Children's Book and for purposes of advertising and promotion without further notice or compensation, except where prohibited by law.

2. Random Drawing: From all eligible entries received, a random drawing will be held on or about June 17, 2002, by Sponsor, whose decisions concerning all matters related to this sweepstakes are final. Winners will be notified by mail no later than June 28, 2002.

3. Prizes: Five (5) Grand Prizes consisting of round-trip coach class air travel for winner and parent/legal guardian from major gateway airport nearest winner's residence to Los Angeles, CA, hotel accommodations based on double occupancy for two for one (1) night, ground transportation, and tickets to The Scholastic Biggest Children's Book in the World Launch Event (the "Launch Event") where winners will have a chance to meet Shaquille O'Neal (approximate retail value $5,000). Total approximate retail value of all prizes is $25,000. Winners and parent/legal guardians are responsible for all other expenses not specifically set forth herein, including but not limited to, providing tours, meals, photos, gratuities, etc. Upgrades are at the sole expense of winner/parent/legal guardian. Sponsor is not liable for delays, cancellation or unforeseen events related to any of the trips. All arrangements for travel and accommodations must be made through representatives of Sponsor. Travel and accommodations subject to availability; certain restrictions and blackout dates may apply. If winner can not travel on specified dates, prize will be forfeited and the prize may be awarded to an alternate. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received. All taxes and any other expenses on the receipt and use of prizes are the sole responsibility of the winners. All prizes will be awarded in the name of the winner's parent or legal guardian.

4. General: Open to students, enrolled in grades 3-12, and that are legal U.S. residents, except employees, and their immediate family members living in the same household, of Sponsor, Reading Is Fundamental and their respective advertising, promotion and production agencies. Void where prohibited by law. No cash substitutions, transfer or assignment of prizes allowed, except by Sponsor who reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value in the event of unavailability. All prizes will be awarded in the name of the winner's parent/legal guardian. By accepting prize, winner's parent/legal guardian grants to Sponsor and Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. the right to use their child's name and likeness in advertising and promotion without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law. The parent/legal guardian of all winners will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release which must be returned within 15 days of notification attempt or prize may be awarded to an alternate. By entering, all students warrant and represent that their submissions are fully original works. By accepting prize, prize winners and parents/legal guardians release Sponsor, Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, advertising, production and promotion agencies, from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, costs or expenses, including without limitation property damages, personal injury and/or death, arising out of participating in this sweepstakes, or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy or copyright infringement. All entrants and their parents/legal guardians grant to Sponsor the right to copy, edit, publish, promote and use all entry materials, either alone or accompanied by other materials, in perpetuity, throughout the world, for any lawful purpose whatsoever, in any media now known or ever developed without further compensation. In the event, for whatever reason, the Launch Event is cancelled, postponed, rescheduled, delayed or interrupted for any reason, or if Shaquille O'Neal is late or unable to appear, Sponsor is under no obligation to provide winners with tickets to any future event, and is not under any obligation to provide any other substitute prize.
