Ruby Bridges 50th Anniversary Portrait Contest

About the Contest

On November 14, 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges put on a brave face and walked through an angry crowd to enter her new school. With this one simple act, she helped break down the walls of segregation in America. Have your students imagine themselves in a difficult, scary, or dangerous situation. Then ask them to draw a self-portrait that shows how they feel.

TEN Winners will receive $100 worth of great art supplies plus two 25-Book ClassroomsCare Libraries—one for the winner and one for the classroom.
