What's Special About Grade 2?
In Grade 2, students relish their growing independence as readers and writers. They're making the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. They begin to see how one language arts skill reinforces another and to appreciate the functions and concepts of spelling, grammar, and usage. Second graders start to enjoy the subtleties of their new literacies and experiment with them while reading aloud, writing, discussing, and engaging in word play. They stand firm on their literacy foundation and practice a repertoire of good readers' skills.
