Celebrate
Fall with Johnny Appleseed! |
|
Autumn has just begun which means that it
is apple-picking season in many places across the United
States! Now is a perfect time to use BookFlix to teach your students and
patrons about the legend of Johnny
Appleseed.
-
Use the pair Johnny Appleseed
and Johnny Appleseed to introduce children to
this American legend.
-
Lead a group discussion about legends.
What other legends can you name? Why did Johnny
Appleseed become a legend?
-
Have students and patrons use red
construction paper to create paper apples. Then ask
them to think of one of Johnny's personality traits
and to write it on the apple. Gather the paper apples
and post them on a wall to create a giant tree.
-
Remind students that Johnny
Appleseed's adventures helped the environment and also
fed many people. Help children organize a community
service project, such as planting trees in a local
park or hosting a food drive for people in
need.
Use BookFlix to access many other exciting
pairs that teach about important figures and historical
events. | |
