State Teacher of the Year, Alaska
Alaska's Teacher of the Year, Patricia A. Truman, lives in Anchorage and teaches language arts at Palmer Junior Middle School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Montana College, Billings, Montana, and a Master of Arts in English from Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont. Throughout her 26-year teaching career, Patricia has received many awards and recognitions, which include: Matanuska-Susitina Teacher of the Year in 1996 and 2000, Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship, DeWitt/Wallace Fellowship, NEH, Executive Board member of Alaska's State Writing Consortium and a gubernatorial appointment to Alaska's Professional Teaching Practices Commission. She also holds a National Board Certificate in Early Adolescent Language Arts.
