Valdine Marie McLean, 2001
State Teacher of the Year, Nevada
In a rural community, Valdine McLean is completing her 12th year of teaching biology, chemistry, physics, and student leadership. One of her most recent accomplishments was achieving National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult Science. She currently is the president of Nevada State Science Teachers Association and past recipient of the Presidential Awards in Excellence for Math & Science as Nevada's Secondary Science Awardee in 1998. She remains active as a National Teacher Training Institute Master teacher and was recipient of NTTI "Master Teacher of the Year" in 1998. She serves her community through her church and through Girl Scouts by being the Service Unit Manager and a Brownie Girl Scout Troop Leader. Valdine spends the majority of her spare time enjoying her family while traveling, camping, gardening, scrap booking, and quilting.
