Meet Leidy Johana, 14, Sierra Vargas, Colombia
By Suzanne Freeman

Leidy
Leidy came to the Children's Forum to discuss an issue important in her country: children in armed conflict.

"Children are recruited by force into work or kidnapped to fight in conflicts," Leidy said through an interpreter.

She says, very forcefully, that the Colombian government will have to negotiate with the guerrilla fighters to bring peace back to her country.

"There can be no education if the guerrillas are destroying schools," she said. "There can be no economic development if guerrillas are destroying the mental health of children and making them orphans. The government must negotiate a peace."
