Meet Kip Oebanda, 19, Philippines

Kip Oebanda
Kip helped plan the UN Special Session on Children. He was part of the National Plan of Action and the preparatory meetings. He has been working on children's rights issues since he was 7 years old.

Kip was born in IloIlo City in a prison camp. His parents had been arrested for fighting against then-President Ferdinand Marcos. He lived in the prison until he was 3.

As a delegate to the special session, he says he is especially concerned about child labor.

"War is related to child labor," he said when asked why he was participating in a Youth Against War event. He also helped plan the March for Children's Rights held the day before. "War displaces children, then they are not stable and have to work. They have no schools."
