SUMMARY

Scholastic Literacy Pro is a blended reading solution that curates a personalized bookshelf for students in Grades K–8, supporting independent reading with data to inform instruction. Literacy Pro empowers students to read voluminously and with purpose through choice, ownership, and access to authentic, engaging ebooks. This Research Foundation paper reviews critical research about the many ways that independent reading benefits literacy development and the key qualities of an effective independent reading program. It then describes how this research informed the design and user experience of Scholastic Literacy Pro.
