OBJECTIVE:
To foster a positive self-image in students by reflecting on memorable
achievements in their lives
MATERIALS: Trophy
Room reproducible (PDF); pens/pencils/photos/glue for artwork;
access to SparkTop.org
ACTIVITY LEAD-IN: Have students define what an accomplishment
is. Explain that an accomplishment can be anything that someone
achieves or finishes, whether he or she wins a race, cleans the
house, or finishes his or her homework. Share one of your accomplishments
(no matter how small) that you're proud of. Mention what skills
or steps were needed to accomplish the task. Discuss how different
accomplishments require different strengths and abilities. Hand
out the Trophy Room reproducible, one per student (provide
additional copies if students create more trophies).
PROCEDURE:
1. Guide students to think of something they've done that they're
proud of and write that accomplishment on their Trophy Room
reproducible.
2. Encourage them to think back on what they did to accomplish
that task (e.g., talking to their parents, saving money, surfing
the Web, etc.).
3. Guide students to write about how they (and even others) felt
when they finished their task.
4. Instruct students to write, draw, or paste photos that represent
their achievement in their Trophy Room.
5. If appropriate, have students share their accomplishment with
the class.
