1947: UN Partition Plan

During World War II, 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. Largely because of this, the United Nations voted to divide Palestine into two nations, one for Arabs, and one for Jews.

The Arab state consisted of the Gaza Strip in the west, the West Bank in the east, and part of northern Israel; the Jewish state was composed of the rest of Palestine. Arabs did not accept this plan; Jews did.
