SUMMARY

Scholastic W.O.R.D. is a vocabulary, comprehension, and knowledge program for Grades K–5 that systematically exposes students to the 2,500 morphological word families that are known to boost reading comprehension. This third-party case study highlights how W.O.R.D. promoted vocabulary instruction at Millingport Elementary in Albemarle, NC by providing students with game-based learning experiences and helping educators to put their science of reading training into everyday practice. With Scholastic W.O.R.D., students’ vocabulary and fluency scores increased, while educators gained more visibility into students’ specific learning needs.
