Carla Hall is a co-host of ABC’s popular lifestyle series “The Chew,” and is best known as a competitor on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” where she won over audiences with her fun catch phrase, “Hootie Hoo,” and her philosophy to always cook with love.
The new Top Chef Season 11 winner, Chef Nicholas Elmi has worked at some of the top rated French restaurants including Guy Savoy, Le Bec Fin, Union Pacific, Oceana and Lutece. This fall, Nicholas opened Laurel, a French American restaurant with a focus on sustainability and simplicity.
Lyanna is a 15 year-old 10th grade student at Food and Finance High School. After graduation, she plans to go to a culinary college to further her studies in the world of food. Once finished with school, she would like to be the head chef at her own restaurant.
Diamond is a 10th grader at Food and Finance High School. She is looking forward to being a pastry chef, and one day, she would like to manage her own bakery. Lately, she has been focusing very hard on piping skills and working many catering events.
Jacob is a junior at Food and Finance High School. He hopes to one day become a nutritionist. He believes that as a nutritionist, he could change the world in many ways. He is passionate about showing people how to be healthy by teaching them how to eat right and exercise.
Sam Kass is the Executive Director of Let’s Move! and Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition Policy. In this capacity, Sam leads the First Lady’s work to help America raise a healthier generation of kids and ensure that kids have the opportunity for the long, healthy lives they deserve. Sam is also Assistant White House Chef.
Mr. Deegan is a 10th grade Geometry teacher at Food and Finance High School. Aside from eating the delicious food his students make, his favorite part about teaching at Food and Finance is helping his students learn, grow, and succeed.
Like many ICE students, Chef-Instructor Dalia Jurgensen left a former career to train as a chef. Starting off her career at Nobu, she went on to become Pastry Chef at Veritas and Executive Pastry Chef at Devlin Metro Group. Her memoir, Spiced, was published in 2009.
After 15 years in the kitchens of such iconic New York restaurants as Marcus Samuelsson’s Aquavit, Chef Michael Garrett joined the faculty at ICE in 2013. Garrett is most recognized for his time as Executive Chef of the groundbreaking Harlem restaurant, Red Rooster.
Have worked alongside such famed chefs as Emeril Lagasse, Tom Colicchio and Marc Forgione, ICE Chef-Instructor Jenny McCoy is a pastry powerhouse in her own right. Outside the classroom, McCoy regularly appears on the Food Network and recently published her first cookbook, Desserts for Every Season.
From our very own Scholastic Math team, Kimberly Agin is a former high school math teacher from Ohio. Passionate about educational technology, Kim is a key member of our Development team at Scholastic, where she works primarily on our MATH 180 teacher software.
