The
Lexile Framework® for Reading Scholastic
Reading Inventory was developed in partnership with MetaMetrics,
Inc., the creators of the Lexile Framework for Reading—a research-proven
measure of reading ability and text difficulty. The Lexile Framework
was created by a team of experts in the fields of measurement, testing
and reading, under the auspices of the National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development. SRI is the only classroom-based
assessment program that directly reports student reading levels
using the native Lexile®
item format.
Accurately
Match Readers with Books
The Lexile Framework for Reading uses the Lexile measure to evaluate
both reading ability and text difficulty. By placing both reader
and text on the same scale, the Lexile Framework allows educators
to forecast the level of comprehension a student will experience
with a particular text, and to evaluate curriculum needs based on
each student's ability to comprehend the materials.
Connect
to High-Stakes Tests
The Lexile Framework has been linked to many national norm-referenced
assessments, including the TerraNova Assessment Series (CTBS/5 and
CAT/6); the SAT-10, SAT-9, MAT-8, SDRT-4; and the Iowa Tests (ITBS
and ITED). Thus, by utilizing the Lexile Framework, SRI gives educators
the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between high-stakes assessment
and instruction, and provides an indication of future performance
on such tests.
Adopted
Nationwide
States throughout the U.S.—including Alabama, California,
Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, Utah,
and Wyoming—utilize the Lexile Framework as a critical part
of the reading curriculum. For more information on the Lexile Framework,
