Lesson 3: Reef Rhymes: Rhyming Words

Objective: Analyze phonetics for rhyming words and writing purposes.

Time Required: 30 minutes

Material Needed: Reef Rhymes (PDF) student reproducible #3

Directions:

1. Use a simple nursery rhyme, [e.g., "Little Miss Muffet"] to demonstrate a rhyming poem. Write the nursery rhyme on the board and point out the rhyming words.
2. Have students complete student reproducible 3, Reef Rhymes (PDF). As students read the rhyme aloud, have them emphasize the rhyming words.

Extension Activity:
Have students complete the Bonus Activity by choosing a partner and creating their own rhyming poem.
