Collect & Organize Your Favorite Books

Share Books by Themes
Celebrating the works of one author is just one way I share favorite books with students. Often I share a favorite book as it relates to a particular unit of study. The possibilities for using the unit approach are endless. Animals, Life in the Ocean, Dinosaurs, and The Land of Make-Believe are four of my favorite thematic units. A week of Read-Alouds during our study of The Land of Make-Believe would look something like this:

Monday: The Frog Prince Continued by Jon Scieszka
Tuesday: The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka
Wednesday: Babushka Baba Yaga by Patricia Polacco
Thursday: The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch
Friday: Fritz and the Mess Fairy by Rosemary Wells

"Bird week" of our Animal unit might include these favorites:

Monday: Owl Moon by Jane Yolen

Tuesday:

Feathers for Lunch by Lois Ehlert
  Wednesday: Cockatoos by Quentin Blake
Thursday: Flute's Journey by Lynn Cherry
Friday: Song of the Swallows by Leo Politi
